Every day is a new day

I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the LORD sustained me. (Psalm 3:5 ESV)
A scientific report claims that the time when we’re asleep is perhaps one of the most dangerous time for us a mere mortals! Apparently a whole host of problems show up while we’re at rest. Why do people snore? Breathing difficulties perhaps. There’s even a syndrome where when one is asleep the body and mind is unable to “tune” itself to breathe properly. These people wake up with a splitting headache (due to minor asphyxiation) and feeling more tired than before they slept.
Terrible. In the Psalm 3 David’s problem wasn’t medical. He was simply under threat from a beleaguered King Saul. Like all warriors of old, your enemy could very well sneak up upon you while you rest and that would be that.
In fact, it was David that got the jump on Saul a few times.
This simple verses teaches us two things: to be thankful when we wake in the morning for the LORD has gifted us a gift of a new day, and to be thankful that we’re under no threat. Physical, medical or otherwise.
Prayer points:
- Thank Him for a new day
- Pray for those who cannot fathom another day in their lives. Pray that the LORD uses you, to reach out to them
- The only way to do that is to have the LORD reach out to you first! By prayer, reading of the WORD and faith.
Prayer of the day:
Dear LORD, I thank you for everything. Teach me to be more like you. As you gave your command, teach me to love my neighbour with all the humility, depth and truthfulness you would have me. Guide me. Teach me. In Jesus name. Amen.
