My experience in Alpha

I come from a Christian family background and grew up going to Sunday School regularly. But somehow as I got into my teens and subsequently went away to college, I fell away from church. So for the past 45 years I was the type to show up in Church maybe on Easter or Christmas Sundays.

I was not praying and not reading the Bible. I did not know how to pray to ask for guidance. I did not know how to get into it, not until I heard about Alpha. I thought this would be a good chance to get back into it and try to find God again.

Nicky Gumbel’s messages were extremely interesting, well put, simple and easy to understand, so much so when we broke up into our small groups after the video session, it gave us the ability to talk and share about our doubts, fears, concerns, struggles or anything we did not understand.

The weekend away was a powerful experience with a great sense of being loved and feeling of God’s presence. The talks on ‘Who is The Holy Spirit’, ‘What Does The Holy Spirit Do’ and particularly ‘How can I Be Filled with The Holy Spirit’ were what I secretly hungered for. As I stepped forward to ask to be filled with The Holy Spirit I started crying. Looking back now, I know that was me being filled with The Holy Spirit. I never felt such love as I did that moment. I felt a strong sense of His love for me. It was a wonderful moment of joy and peace.

I hope to grow spiritually from here on and be strengthened in my spiritual walk with Jesus and begin a daily walk of prayer and personal Bible Study.
