He is our strength
GOD, the Lord, is my strength;
he makes my feet like the deer’s;
he makes me tread on my high places.
(Habakkuk 3:19 ESV)
Addiction is a terrible thing because it is more than needs or wants; it is an obsession. It gnaws at our existence. There’s no break from it.
There are many forms of addiction. Let’s dismiss the easier ones first shall we? Addiction to drugs, alcohol, money, videogames.
Now, how about those we don’t often think about? Addiction to work. An addiction to the spotlight. An addiction to power.
There’s even addiction to pain! In our work as pastors and ministers, we often come across people who befuddles us as to why they couldn’t just have it in their minds to overcome something. There’s this person who’s been jobless for ages but whenever a job offer comes, he is conveniently not around. Likewise, there are people who are addicted to bad relationships. It makes you wonder….
Most of these subtler forms of addiction come simply because we seek some form of validation. Like fanfare for a performer, it validates his/her performance.
As believers, our validation comes from the LORD, who already promised His Son to those who would believe. That’s the beginning. The uphill battle is to put away all these addictions.
Remember the words of Habakkuk. Deers are nimble creatures. They climb even the most challenging of terrains with deftness. Ask the LORD, that He makes our feet like the deer’s.
Prayer points:
- LORD, make our feet like the deer’s able to overcome the rough terrains of our lives.
Prayer of the day:
Dear LORD, our Father in heaven. Holy is your name and the name of your Son Jesus Christ our LORD. Thank you for your grace. Forgive us for our sins as we err even without thinking. LORD, cleanse us in the power of your name and strengthen us O LORD, for you are our shield. Amen.
