Old Testament Seminar on the Minor Prophets

OLD TESTAMENT SEMINAR on The Minor Prophets
AT TRINITY METHODIST CHURCH PJ in August 2014

  • Who are the minor prophets?
  • What did they say? How were they God’s spokepersons
  • Why should i need to know what they say?
  • Do they have a message for us today?

Rev. Dr. Anthony Loke, the Old Testament lecturer with the Seminari Theoloji Malaysia is the teacher for this seminar. He introduces the Minor Prophets and invites us to the seminar with these words:-

“The Twelve Minor Prophets have often been relegated to the reading sidelines by modern Christians. This is partly because its name seems to imply that they are considered ‘minor’ as compared with the three Major Prophets of Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. However, the designation of ‘minor’ is not in terms of importance but only in terms of the books’ relative length. In terms of their contents, these twelve prophetic books hold their place of importance in the position of the Old Testament canon. Taken together, the length of the twelve books are as long as a single major prophetic book. Their message is equally important as they speak about sin and its results, God’s punishment through the means of exile, and the eventual restoration of the people. Thus, they have a continual relevance for the contemporary modern Church which is often in danger of succumbing to temptation and the effects of sin and finding herself in ‘exile’ without a hope of restoration.”
