Why Alpha?

I have attended the Alpha course several times. Each time, I had different experiences together with mixed feelings but I can say that there were certain fulfilment. I enjoyed the fellowship, the new friendships, the inspiration and experiences.

Alpha is indeed a special programme for seekers to know the true God and to find out more about the Christian faith in an informal way. I was a Taoist/Buddhist when I joined my first Alpha. Due to curiosity, I signed up for the Alpha course to seek to know “Is there more to life than this?”. We did have some good food and interesting discussions in the Alpha sessions.

During the discussions, we were able to find answers to the many different kinds of questions and exchange ideas on different religions and beliefs too. We asked some common yet interesting and difficult questions which most of us were curious about but OFTEN did not have the opportunity to ask or discuss such as:

“Where do we go when we die? Is there life after death?”,

“What is life all about?”

“I am an Atheist. Does God really exist? God could be Alien/UFO from outer space who gave us Alien Technology”,

“Is Jesus Christ God or a man?”

“Every Religion teaches us to be good. The gods from different religions are under one God but why Christianity?”

“I am a good person. I believe I still can go to heaven without god or with god from other religions. Why Christian God?”

“I am afraid of ghosts. Can Christianity help me?”

If you have the same doubts as I and many people have, I recommend you to join the Alpha course. I believe, through the many wonderful discussions, you would better understanding the Christian faith.

It was through the Alpha course that I started to learn more about the true living God. It was here that I began my relationship with God. I did not experience this kind of conviction of the heart when I was a Taoist/Buddhist. I learned how to pray to God, Creator of the universe. Most of these prayers were answered during my time in Alpha. I am certain that they were not coincidences.

To me, life is a long but yet a short journey because we do not know what will happen tomorrow. It is whether now or later in life that you have the opportunity to ask searching questions like those mentioned earlier.

The Question is “Why not now?”.

I became a Christian not by force, influence or brain washing by others. It was after my personal vivid experiences that I took the step of faith to be baptised.

As a Christian, I can now depend on the many promises of God and am confident of His guidance and protection.

I no longer fear the ghosts that I had experienced before.

The Bible tells me in Psalm 20:7, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God”.

I now confidently call upon the Name of Jesus Christ in times of need.

Do not wait any longer!

Hope to see you in Alpha soon.

God bless,
Roy Shu
